Must Eat in Hong Kong!

Renowned as the culinary capital of Asia, Hong Kong boasts more than 11,000 restaurants, many of them clustered in defined food districts. Apart from enjoying the best Cantonese and regional Chinese food, visitors can sample a full choice of authentic Asian cuisines and Western fare. Local must-try dishes are dim sum and fresh seafood, with some of the top examples found in Best of the Best award-winning restaurants.
Take a stroll down some of these streets, Nga Tsin Long Road; Nam Kwok Road; Lung Kong Road; Prince Edward Road; Kai Tak Road; Fuk Lo Tsun Road and drop by the many cafes and diners along the way.
How to get there?
MTR Lok Fu Station and take a short taxi ride.

Must Eat?

Islam Food (清真牛肉館)
1 Lung Kong Road, Kowloon City
$41-$100

Veal Goulash

Curry and beef curry with spring onion pancake

Ordered some mutton curry and beef curry (and spring onion pancake to dip into them). Both were fantastic as the meats were extremely tender although the mutton curry stood out more because of its intense, pleasantly pungent flavour. Never thought I'd enjoy halal cuisine so much .

Cambo Thai Restaurant 金寶泰國菜館
G/F, 15 Nga Tsin Long Road, Kowloon City

Shrimp ball

Seafood Fried rice

Thai cuisine is my favourite and I love spicy food so much I definitely recommend this restautant if you would like to try the authentic Thai food I tried Seafood Fried rice and Shrimp ball, it's really nice!!! they are exactly the same taste as in Thailand (the one that I tried in SuanLum market) and the Thai shrimp sashimi was absolutely delicious!!! spicy.. and just get up my appetite!!! love the chilli!!!Overall, the food is good~!

Ho Choi Seafood Restaurant 好彩海鮮酒家

Dim Sum

Dim Sum with Chinese Tea

Now enough talk about the dim sum and back to the environment issue. The place was so noisy that I had to shout. People were always on the move, either moving their asses around on their seats, turning their heads and loooking lost in the tea place, and more are always on their feet chasing after trolleys for fresh dim-sums. IT was too much for me to bear. The noise, the people, and everything were pressing on me, putting me on my nerves. Some may find such eating experience exciting but i found that completely unbearable and stressful. I guess that if you had to literally struggle through the crowd for just a bun, it would not be pleasant no matter how delicious the bun might be.
Dim sum is undeniably delicious, but i just cant stand eating in an environment as stressful as this. I eat slow, and i wish to eat somewhere i can relax and enjoy myself. If i had to follow the nerve-putting rules (which i can actually avoid, i dont have to go on weekends basically...) to eat, id rather not to.

Kung Wo Dou Bun Chong 公和荳品廠

Tofu Fa

assorted snacks

The tofu fa was not crazy shiny like its competitor, but had a much better texture (firmer but smooth) and a present soy bean taste. Unfortunately I can't say this is the best tofu-fa i've had in HK...
Anyway, I noticed on the menu they had made available many other options, such as the common black sesame paste w/ tofu fa, but even a puree of wolf-berry (small red fruit) with tofu-fa! Someone was eating it next to us....and it looked like....Chili paste... I'm still debating whether i should try this next time!

Chiu Chow Hop Shing Dessert 潮州合成甜品

綠豆邊蓮子清心丸

滋補紅蓮燉雪蛤
Continuing on my Chiu Chow theme and going into one of the Chiu Chow enclaves in Kowloon City, Chiu Chow Hop Shing Dessert is a renowned old hand. Also known as the King of Lotus Seeds, and I don't particularly like lotus seeds, this is where they get it right. They are steamed soft and break down in the mouth without any chewing.

On this occasion, I ordered the split green beans with lotus seeds and a nicely chewy jelly, slightly more so than Konnyaku (綠豆邊蓮子清心丸). The broth was light and not too sweet, with the green beans providing most of the texture. The lotus seeds added another dimension of fragrance and sweetness and the jelly (清心丸) breaking up the monotony every now and then.

Patisserie Tony Wong
74 Fok Lo Tsun Road, Kowloon City
Below $40
It was absolutely my first time to try the lovely Patisserie from Tony Wong's, how delicated~

  1. Thanks for the recommendations and lovely photos. I have never eaten halal food before but the beef curry you wrote about makes me want to go there right now :)
